may 4 | hands-on floral workshop
Expand the way you view your own backyard, the flowers sold by vendors at your local farmer's market and even the "weeds" in our area's wilder places.
Each attendee will express their personal style and learn to employ eco-techniques to avoid chemically-laden products. You'll create a lavish (and healthy) arrangement, using natural or easy-to-recycle materials like twigs, excelsior and chicken wire, Debra will also demonstrate the best ways to harvest, process, and prolong the vase life of the ingredients.
All your floral material will be provided. Light snacks and beverages will be served.
april 6 | WRITING WORKSHOP
Translating a life lived to the page is more than simply transcribing memories. Writing a memoir asks an author to become a student of oneself. Guidance is revealed through the primary source materials of your life: sketchbooks, photographs, letters, journals, saved ticket stubs, a favorite coffee mug, and other ephemera all contribute clues and inspirations for crafting prose. Each student will bring one or two chosen objects to share and use as writing prompts during the workshop, as the exercises will revolve around these items. At the end of the day, each student will have worked on short drafts of prose for each object that helps to tell their story.
